Ok, so I have an iPhone 5 with software 7.1.1 (latest update) and I've been having a few issues the past couple of days.
It started around a week or so ago when I was trying to put the new deadmau5 album on my phone via my computer. I was having a little bit of trouble, but managed to finally get it to work. Then, I noticed that for some reason iTunes was duplicating some songs on my phone. It would (seemingly randomly) put another copy of a song on there. No big deal, I just went through and deleted the duplicates. Then, a couple days ago, I'd go to select a song, and it'd freeze up for a second, and then bounce back to choose the song again, without playing. If I tried again, it would show the "No Music. You can download music from iTunes" message for about 2 seconds, before sending me to the Artist list-menu (deleting the song in question off of my phone, so I'd have to redownload it). So after a couple days of that, I plugged it back in, and managed to fix that problem (I think). Now, seemingly randomly, in the Music app, the pop-up window will show up asking me for my iTunes password. If I hit cancel, it dissappears, but pops up again later. If I type in my password (correctly) it does the same thing. I tried signing out of my account and signing back in, I tried turning my phone off and on again, and I did each of these things multiple times, and nothing has worked. Any ideas? I really don't want to have to wipe my phone and restore to a backup, and I know it sounds like a dumb issue, but I can assure you, it's a real annoyance.

You don't want to do the one thing I would suggest that you do.
Have you restarted the phone lately? Do you have iTunes Match set up? This could conceivably be showing dupes if you are streaming at the same time you are uploading from the computer. Otherwise, I got nuthin'. I think a Restore might be your best course of action.

Yeah, don't want to do a restore if I can help it...
And yes, I restarted the phone. and Nope, don't have Match set up, or even iCloud. The apple people suggested I turn iCloud off, and I told them it wasn't set up, and it was pretty much silence on the other end. I've just signed out of iTunes, and I'm going to see if staying signed out will keep it from happening. I don't buy music much, so if I decide to buy music, I'll just sign in, download the song, and sign back out. It's sloppy/not really a fix, but in order to do a full restore I have to download the latest software update to my computer (1.2 GB) and with my relatively slow-ass wi-fi, I don't have time for that shit, lol

Yeah, it wouldn't hurt to have the latest iTunes, but that's probably not your issue. You might also try deleting all the music from the phone, restart the phone, then reload the music. It would take a while, but it couldn't hurt. Good luck.

I should've clarified... I meant I'd have to download the latest iPhone software update to my computer (my phone already has it though), not iTunes software. But yeah, you're probably right about just restoring it.

Sometimes I get so pissed off at it that a phone like that seems to be a totally legitimate solution.

Trust me, I feel like that occasionally

I would start by turning off iTunes Match (if you have it on) and rebooting the phone. Then see what music you have. Be careful about turning iTunes Match back on. If it starts to cause weirdness, turn it back off and review iTunes Match from iTunes. Also make sure your phone isn't full.

don't have match on, and my phone has 10 GB open (32 GB FTW)

Okay - the next thing then - use iTunes to make a full backup of the phone, then do a full restore, then restore settings from that backup, then sync. Every time I've done this all settings, files, photos etc have always come back to me. It takes a couple of hours to get it done, but it's been a very reliable problem solver for me.

Yeah, that's probably what I need to do, but like I said in another thread, I don't really have time for all of that so I just came up with a temporary solution until I can get around to doing the full restore.

Get an Android phone. I managed to get my boss to switch, and he cant go back. I literally have never had any issues with any of my android devices.
Need to factory restore? As soon as I log back into my google account and put in my SD card, its back to how it was. No more depending on itunes crap. Not making consistent itunes backups is exactly why doing a factory reset is so annoying to people who have big issues. That whole, 'make a backup before you have the problem' seems to be difficult to many.

Not a fan of any Android OS. I've played around (in good length) with GS4's, HTC One's, and a few other of the more highly regarded Android OS devices and didn't like any of them as much as the iPhone. The iPhone can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but honestly, I'd still keep it over the others.

Well, interestingly, I did a full back-up and then restore, and the problem still exists. No idea what the problem is, and whats causing it.

You might try the Apple support forums, or a Google. I've solved many of my issues with a Google search.

That was the first thing I did, and I basically came up with nothing after trying what other people suggested.
